Blue Flag Beaches 2023: Greece Ranks 2nd in the World with 617 Awarded Beaches: Halkidiki – Home to Most Blue Flag Beaches in Greece 

Greece has once again ranked 2nd in the world with 617 Blue Flag beaches, according to the International Blue Flag Program. The remarkable thing is that for the first time, the awards exceed 600 and that Greece holds 15% of the awarded costs among the 52 countries participating in the Program. The first place in Greece was awarded to the municipality of Halkidiki, with 94 flags.

617 Reasons to Visit Greece in 2023: The World’s Second Blue Flag Beach Destination 

The Blue Flag is the most recognizable and widely-used ecological quality symbol worldwide. It has been awarded since 1987 to beaches and marinas that meet strict criteria for water quality, environmental management, safety, and services.

The International Jury awarded a total of 4,212 beaches, 710 marinas, and 120 tourist boats worldwide. Greece’s Halkidiki region was the first to be declared the winner, with 94 flags.
