Autumn update on Covid19 in Greece

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is facing some difficult decisions at the moment while trying to balance public health and economic welfare. More than six months after the first case of COVID-19, the Greek government is thinking of introducing more strict measures in order to stop it from spreading as the present ones have not been as effective as planned.

March lockdown has lasted for ten weeks but COVID-19 does not seem to be under control in Greece. This country has suffered a lot in the tourist field as they have been closed this summer for some of the countries that visit it the most.

So far wearing masks is required for public institutions, outdoor gatherings, or green markets but not all (or not many) people do it. Night clubs close earlier but the young are thirsty for socialization so they grab a beer from a shop and hang out in squares long after midnight, as it is their only option. The police are not allowed to use anything except persuasion to convince them to keep social distance and go home.

Prime minister Mitsotakis claims there will not be another lockdown as it was shown to be detrimental for the Greek economy and he has stated Greece has enough ventilators and IC units although military hospitals are on stand-by.
