Bulgarian and Romanian tourists in Greece – summer 2020

After the number of new confirmed cases has increased in the last couple of weeks, which was expected with the tourists visiting this beautiful country, Greece has introduced some new measures to protect its citizens.

That means more thorough checks at the borders, restaurants, and cafes and constant revising of lists of countries with higher risk to spread infection. Greece has recently extended mask-wearing requirements in supermarkets, as well as disinfecting and social distancing…

Specifically, for Bulgarian and Romanian tourists visiting Greece (and many others that travel by land), that means showing proof of a negative PCR test (molecular test) 72 hours before entering Greece as well as Passenger Locator Form 24 hours in advance.

An important issue is that Promachonasย  Serres ( Bulgaria โ€“Greece border crossing) is the only crossing for all the tourists from the Balkans to Greece (excluding the Serbs who currently cannot enter Greece). It has become a large entering source of cases.

Greek media says that, in the last few days, more than ten thousand people cross this border every day. Of course, it creates increased demand for PCR tests in Bulgaria and very long lines with a lot of nervous holidaymakers.
