Urgent News Report‼️ Wildfire in Polygyros, Sitonia Beaches Affected by Smoke

In a pressing development, firefighting teams have ramped up their efforts in tackling a significant blaze currently underway in the Platanias Polygyros region. The fire, which ignited earlier today, has been consuming agricultural and forested lands, posing a threat to the vicinity of Patelida.

Engaging a comprehensive response, around 30 dedicated firefighters are on the frontlines, supported by a fleet of 14 water-carrying vehicles. Additionally, two-foot patrol units have been deployed to bolster ground operations, while aerial support is being provided by two helicopters conducting water drops.

Halkidiki Implements Traffic Ban in Kassandra, Sithonia, and Aristotelis Municipalities: Safety Measures in Place

In an impactful move, the Deputy Regional Governor of Halkidiki, Aikaterini Zografou, has instituted a ban on all pedestrian and vehicular traffic across Kassandra, Sithonia, and Aristotelis municipalities. Effective tomorrow from 8 AM for the next twelve hours, this proactive measure aims to address safety concerns. The areas affected include:

  • In Kassandra Peninsula: “Koryfogrammi” (from Kassandrino to Agia Paraskevi), “Arapis,” and “Chalkovouni” in Paliori Postal Code.
  • In Sithonia Peninsula: Koryfogrammi Dragoundeli from Beekeeping Cooperative to Sykia.
  • In Aristotelis Municipality: Komitsa up to Ouranoupoli – Tsamia Stratonikis – Fysoka – Skopeftirio Stratoniki.

In a separate yet interconnected occurrence, the picturesque beaches of Sitonia are encountering an unusual phenomenon. A yellowish haze, attributed to smoke carried by the wind from the vicinity of Aleksandropolis where a sizable wildfire has been raging, has blanketed several coastal areas. The distant blaze has resulted in this peculiar atmospheric effect, though it’s essential to note that the fire remains distant from the affected beaches. Local authorities are actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
