Ormos Panagias
Ormos Panagias is a small village located on the east coast of Sithonia, 9km from Vourvourou, and 2.5km from Agios Nikolaos. The place is about 110 kilometers away from Thessaloniki.
Ormos Panagias is one of the most important ports in Sithonia, from where boats depart every morning to take tourists on a tour of Mount Athos. The place has a great location for touring the Halkidiki peninsula and especially for touring Sithonia and its beautiful beaches.
In recent years, this place has experienced expansion, so many hotels, apartments, and villas have been built, as well as taverns, restaurants, and cafes.
Here you can see beautiful yachts from all over the world and also small local fishing boats docked in the port. A trip to Amuliani – the largest island in this part of Halkidiki, is also organized.
One of the most beautiful beaches in Sithonia is here – the beach of Trani Ammouda. It is awarded a blue flag for cleanliness and organization, it has amazingly clear, turquoise water and a very long sandy beach.
The center of Ormos Panagias is located along the bay, with a small square and fountain and the Church of the Blessed Virgin (Panagia) after which the village was named.
There are also some shops with souvenirs, postcards, magnets, summer equipment, clothes, and jewelry. You can enjoy your lunch in a pizzeria, or taste great gyros at a fast-food restaurant and visit a bakery or a pastry shop for breakfast. For bigger shopping or dining you can go to Nikiti, only a few minutes away by car.
An interesting and convenient thing in Ormos Panagias is a cute little bakery on wheels, that delivers fresh bread or some delicious pastries for breakfast every day between 09:00 and 10:00. In the mornings, boats with fresh fish arrive and you can choose from a variety of fish and seafood at affordable prices.
On the large concrete dock in the village, there are daily parked buses that bring tourists from other summer resorts to hop on a boat here and sail along the west coast of Mount Athos or tour the uninhabited but beautiful island of Diaporos.
Ormos Panagias is a very small village, suitable for a family vacation, primarily because of the beautiful beaches nearby, quiet environment, and low traffic. Children will enjoy the large and beautiful courtyards in most villas, and the resort itself is more than a convenient starting position if you want to mix things up and visit the other places in that part of Sithonia.
The locals are known for their production of Tsipouro, a strong local drink, still made in an old-fashioned way. Of course, don’t forget the Sithonia delicacy- greek yogurt with pine honey.
